The Halifax Lions play their first home playoff game at the Halifax Forum on Monday night vs the Pictou County Weeks Crushers in 3 Years. It has been a turnaround year for the young Lions team led by Head Coach/GM Troy Ryan.
Game 1 of the Bent division semi final was won by the Lions in New Glasgow by a score of 8-4. Led by Stuart Lenehan's 3 goals and 1 assist, the Lions jumped out to a 6 -1 lead at the end of 2 periods and finished out the contest with an 8-4 win.
Coach Ryan said following the game, "it was a complete team effort.The guys really followed the game plan and executed how they know how to".Ryan went on to say "it is a good feeling to get the first win on the road but now we need to follow that up with a big effort at home.Pictou County has a veteran team and will not quit.We really expect them to come to play Monday and we need to be ready for them."
Halifax had two affiliate players in the lineup who both contributed to the win.Alex Zafiris and Matthew Miller made their Jr. A playoff debuts on Saturday night.Coach Ryan said following the game "it was good to get both players in the lineup and allow them to experience Jr playoff hockey.Both players will be impact players in this league in the years to come."
Game 2will be played Monday night at the Halifax Forum at 7 pm.Tickets will be available at the door on Monday night.Game 3 will be back in Pictou County on Wednesday night and then return to Halifax for game 4, which will be played at the St Margaret's Bay arena on Friday night because of the Home show at the Halifax Forum.
