Lions take 2 - 1 series lead

2010-03-11

The Halifax Lions defeated the Pictou County Weeks Crushers 2 - 1 at John Brother MacDonald Stadium to take a 2 - 1 series lead in the Bent Division semi-finals. Game 4 goes Friday night at the St. Margaret's Bay Arena at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the door.

“That was a great road playoff win for our team,” commented Lions Head Coach and General Manager Troy Ryan following the Lions 2 – 1 win in New Glasgow on Wednesday night.

“We capitalized on our opportunities and were able to hold the lead late in the game.  Pictou County certainly threw everything at us.  As I have said before, they are a veteran team that knows what Jr. A. playoff hockey is all about.  They will continue to compete.”

With the Home Show occupying the Halifax Forum from March 12th through 14th, game 4 of the series will be held Friday night at the St. Margaret’s Bay Arena at 7:30pm, marking the first time a Jr. A. playoff game has been held at the facility.  While most teams would be concerned about having to play away from their home arena for a playoff game, Coach Ryan offered a different outlook when speaking about the move to the St. Margaret’s Bay Arena for game 4.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to play at St. Margaret’s Bay Arena,” Ryan said.

“It is an arena that a number of our players have played minor hockey in so while it isn’t our regular home rink it will certainly be familiar to most of our players and I’m sure the fans there will make it feel like a home away from home.  We practiced there on Thursday afternoon to get a feel for the rink and will be ready to go come Friday night at 7:30pm.”

Game 5 of the series shifts back to John Brother MacDonald Stadium on Sunday at 7:30 pm.
